Great Loss
If you haven’t experienced a great loss yet, rest assured you will.
Osheta Moore wrote about such things and Psalm 80:1-7 last week in Disciplines 2022 and said this —
Great loss turns our world upside down and sends us to the floor; to the basics; to cold, hard truths.
Advent gives space for our most raw emotions and guttural cries for God.
Advent begins the story in the midst of conflict. Where is God? The world is broken. God’s people are conquered and need salvation and restoration.
In our lives, too, we know longing and waiting and crying. Our stories personally and collectively mirror the story of Israel.
Covenant means being able to express grief, frustration, and anger to God.
Israel understood this and cried out to Almighty God for mercy. Advent invites us to bring our tears and fears to God in lament.
— Amen.
