Memo from Mick Jagger
Mick Jagger said —
“You go out there and put yourself on
the line and you make sure you’re as good as you
can possibly be. You don’t go half-out, and you
don’t rest on your laurels.
“You give the best you can – even if you feel terrible, you’ve got
a cold, your back’s aching and all that.
You do it because you are putting yourself on the line and
those people have paid good money to see you,
and you better be good.”
— Memo to parents and group leaders and Sunday School Teachers and preachers and, well, yeah, to all of us: To appropriate an old Moody Blues song, Mick’s “just a singer in a rock and roll band.” If he takes it that seriously every time, so should we.
After all: Don’t just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best. Work from the heart for your real Boss, for God, confident that you’ll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. Keep in mind always that the ultimate One you’re serving is Christ. The sullen servant who does shoddy work will be held responsible. Being a follower of Jesus doesn’t cover up bad work. (Colossians 3:23,24, the message version)
Amen?
