CLUB 444: a different question altogether
Philip Amerson said this earlier today —-
Methinks United Methodists have been asking the wrong question around our disagreements.
Instead of asking how woulld those who disagree like to disaffiliate? What if the question was “In what ways do you wish to continue to be United”?
There is already a start at answering this when the General Board of Pensions and Health Benefits works to assist all parties and continue to do so in the future.
In 20 or 30 or 50 years, after the politics and creedal purity posturing have abated, there will come a time of reunification — even reconciliation.
Then, the question, “What unites us today?” can be helpful to future generations.
I even think it could help us know better how to behave next week!
