Are You Poor in Spirit? (Mt. 5)
Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
— Matthew 5:3
Poor, as it was used then and there and here, means being dependent on the generosity of others.
Our Lord is saying that we’re just as dependent on God.
Poor in spirit.
Pretty clear.
We come to God with empty hands.
We’re met with God’s grace. And. So. Much. More.
More, as in the kingdom of heaven.
