She’s Planning Her Funeral

February 2, 2022

Katie Menges Stevens texted me this yesterday, and it’s with her gracious permission that I share it with you – – –

Just got back from a funeral. When I die, I want the first words of the homily to be:

Katie was a sinner, baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

—- You need to know that Katie is in excellent health. She’s about half my age. Now an IT wizard of some sort, once upon a time she was the office manager of a church it was my honor and joy to serve.

She completely caught me off guard with her text yesterday, in a very good way, and I knew you had to see this for yourself.

Of all the ways to identify oneself, especially at such moment for family and friends, wow…what a summary: “A sinner, baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”

Laser-like theological focus right there, and what a starting point!

I thank you, Katie, and I know that all who read this thank you as well.
