Merry Christmas, Indeed!
Merry Christmas!
In the midst of everything else going on, let’s remind one another that despite ad campaigns, “The Twelve Days of Christmas” officially start with Christmas Day and go through January 5th.
Their ending marks the start of Epiphany on January 6th.
But today’s Christmas! In light of that (no pun intended, and we’ll get back to that “light” on Epiphany itself), here are two of my favorite quotes about Christmas that initially seem contradictory —
“One of the most glorious messes in the world is the mess created in the living room on Christmas day. Don’t clean it up too quickly.” (Andy Rooney)
“If Christmas isn’t found in your heart, you won’t find it under a tree.” (Charlotte Carpenter)
But an even better one is from Bob Hope — “My idea of Christmas, whether old-fashioned or modern, is very simple: loving others. Come to think of it, why do we have to wait for Christmas to do that?”
But best of all —
…name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins (Matthew 1:21),
and name Him Immanuel, which is translated “God is with us.” (Matthew 1:23)
Makes me want to shout “AMEN!” and invite you sing with me that 1739 Charles Wesley Christmas carol,
Hark! The Hearld Angels Sing!
Glory to the Newborn King!
Merry Christmas, indeed!
