My Other Favorite, part 7
I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Jesus says that in John 10:10, speaking as He always did in good, proper, and authorized King James’ English.
No, only kidding!
Of course he didn’t really talk like people did in England in 1611.
So other translations, and even versions, are necessary.
We’ve looked at several examples in the course of this series, and I thank you for your patience.
Gene Peterson’s Message version is clearly my personal favorite —
I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.
Why? It addresses the bigger picture, including eternal life. Correction: it addresses the biggest picture, including eternal life.
It calls us beyond our God-given imaginations to a better life than (we) ever dreamed.
There really is so much to celebrate!
