Prayer for Renewal
Renew your church, Lord, your people in this land.
Save us from cheap words and self deception in your service.
In the power of your Spirit transform us, and shape us by your Cross. Amen.
That’s a prayer that is in our official United Methodist Hymnal, and comes to us from South Africa in the 20th century.
Yes, that South Africa.
And, yes, that 20th century.
What was I complaining about recently in the Church? Whatever it was, this prayer puts both my complaint and me to shame.
