How’s Business?

When I asked what is for me a routine question of a store owner in Champaign Illinois, the reply was a great answer – – –

“How’s business?”

“Business is good. Business is always good. (Pause) Sometimes there’s just more of it.“

—- Absolutely love that attitude!

It’s simultaneously realistic and optimistic.

Realistic because there’s acknowledgment of vicissitudes tucked in its third sentence.

Optimistic because when I shared that dialogue with another business owner, it elicited a smile and two words: “Like now.”

I raise my coffee mug and remind you of Romans 15:13’s benediction,

“May the God of hope

fill you with all joy and peace

as you trust in him,

so that you may overflow with hope

by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
