And After Pentecost, part 2
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship” — Acts 2:42
An old line you probably already know says that —-
Wherever two or three Methodists are gathered together, we form a Committee.
—- Sometimes we excel at doing the business of the church but neglect so much else.
Sometimes we forget Who called us together in the first place: Wherever two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them, Christ Jesus says in Matthew 18:20.
We need to be finding appropriate Pandemic and Post-Pandemic ways to live into another old variation of the intentional fellowship part of Acts 2:42 —-
Wherever two or three Methodists are gathered together, we have a potluck.
—- By the grace of God, Matthew 18:20 is still true whether we’re in a meeting, or laughing together, or crying together, or some combination thereof.
In the earliest church, among other things they devoted themselves to fellowship. Some of us still have a lot to learn about that word.
It’s been my joy to serve some churches where the people know how to care for every one, have fun and still get the right things done.
For which I’m quite thankful, how about you?
