Secretly Afraid
“Most of us go through life praying a little, planning a little, jockeying for position, hoping but never being quite certain of anything, and always secretly afraid that we will miss the way.”
A. W. Tozer wrote that in The Knowledge of The Holy, page 63.
Gotta admit his diagnosis seems accurate.
It also reflects the results of Another’s evaluation —
When He saw the crowds,
He had compassion on them,
because they were harassed and helpless,
like sheep without a shepherd.
— Matthew 9:36
— We have a prescription for this condition. It starts with Psalm 23 and continues in John 10:1-42.
But too often we take the prescription for a day or two, start to feel better, and forget about it.
By the grace of God let today be the day you break that pattern.
What’s one thing you can do differently than “praying a little, planning a little, jockeying for position, hoping but never being quite certain of anything, and (being) always secretly afraid that (you) will miss the way” today?
