It’s Like a Party Boat without a Captain

April 16, 2021

“Everyone is having a great time and enjoying the sunset, but no one knows where they’re going. No one’s leading, and no one wants to. Why rock the boat with questions and start giving directions? Everyone is happy, so let’s just let the good times roll.

“Meanwhile, the boat is drifting and no one even cares.”

Rachel Cruz wrote that in her new book, Know Yourself Know Your Money (pages 28-29).

She was writing about some how some families handle money, inadvertently teaching children  the same financial skills, or lack thereof.

But the image in that paragraph haunts me. Not because of my parents’ financial attitudes and actions, but because it reminds me of some groups.

And some churches.

Proverbs 11:14 says, Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.

We can do better as we move beyond this pandemic and its restrictions.

We must.

Or face a shipwreck and the end of the cruise.
