They-Us-You-Me-We

May 27, 2020

“There is no they,” insists Jeff Hoffman.

He goes on —

“They don’t help kids.

They don’t fight injustice or racism.

They don’t feed hungry people

or help stop human trafficking.

YOU do. WE do.”

—- In what some call The Real Lord’s Prayer in John 17 (not to be confused with The Disciples’ Prayer in Matthew 6 and Luke 11), Christ Jesus said,

Holy Father, guard them as they pursue this life
That you conferred as a gift through me,
So they can be one heart and mind
As we are one heart and mind.

We are they.

We are us.

We are Christ’s.

Are we living towards the one-ness for which he prayed or not?

What’s one thing you and I can do today to take one step in that direction?
