The Half-Time of Lent
“Why do you look for the living among the dead?
He is not here; he has risen!
Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:
‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners,
be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ”
— Luke 24:5-7
We’re about halfway through Lent, the time to get ready for Easter.
We’re about halfway through this week, too.
Today’s Half-Time is a good day to hit the Pause button for a moment.
The way The Gospel According to St. Luke presents the events of that first Easter, there was an excellent question involved: “Why do you look for the living among the dead?”
And that started with a quite significant three-letter word, made most famous in recent years by Simon Sinek. That word is Why.
As we continue through Lent together, my hope and prayer is that we’ll take a moment, or even all the moments necessary, to address that three letter question about our actions: “Why…?”
As in, “Why am I going to…?” and “Why am I wanting to…?”
You get the idea: a three-letter self-inventory.
And after we’ve answered some of those, let’s get back to it.
Knowing Why.
