Be Watching for Those Kids
He was 9 years old.
He had filled in the form for his family.
He had checked the box by the words “I wish to join this church.”
He had been part of the Confirmation Class.
On an Easter Sunday he officially became a member of The First Methodist Church of Centralia, IL.
He was 9 years old.
And now he’s retired, after 40 years of serving the people of United Methodist Churches as a pastor while under full-time appointment by Bishops.
Only I’m not finished yet.
I work with two congregations. My official job title is “Visitation and Other Good Stuff.” Writing this blog for you, Fresh-Brewed Daily, is part of that “Other Good Stuff.”
A couple of weeks ago I read this in Disciplines 2018 —
Scripture affirms God’s commitment
to the spiritual value of children.
Perhaps our task is to
grow in attentiveness
to the children around us,
joining God’s formational work
already begun.
—Let’s be watching for those kids.
We’re out there.
