New Job Title, Same Gig
Director of Evangelism and Grace is how it read, but the official job title was Director of Evangelism and Growth. [Not sounding familiar? Scroll down to yesterday’s blog here, check it out, and come on back.]
We’ve been drowning in church growth strategies and seminars and podcasts for several years now. What’s the result? Generally a sad one.
What if we’d heed that typo and focus on Evangelism and Grace?
What happens if you and I see ourselves as agents of Christian Evangelism and God’s Grace?
What if we’d remember our denomination’s ad campaign from the 200th Anniversary of American Methodism? In case you forgot, it was “200 years of proclaiming grace and freedom.”
Evangelism:
sharing the Good News of Christ.
Grace:
God’s gift of salvation
through Christ; a fresh start.
Freedom:
fresh air; the opportunity to live into,
and out of, our faith in Christ;
able to make a difference.
If any of this sounds familiar, I’m glad! File under “the more things change, the more they stay the same,” sometimes with good reasons and results.
Our list of Things To Do hasn’t changed from when our Boss first said, “Go and make disciples of all people, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And know that I am with you always.” (Matthew 28:19,20, RDSV)
Starting today, let’s be people of Evangelism and Grace.
