Peace & Thanksgiving
In every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. The peace of God, which is far beyond our understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. — Philippians 4:6&7
Who’s cooking this Thanksgiving? Who’s driving where? What time will you need to get to the airport? What topics don’t you dare bring up at the table?
Thanksgiving wasn’t a national holiday when Philippians was written. It was part of the instruction on how to pray: with thanksgiving.
When I get to lead small groups, we usually start by giving everyone a chance to share something good that happened during the previous week. These become Celebrations of people and events for which we’re thankful.
Framing the rest of our experience with gratitude can help with perspective on the rest of life.
One more time: In every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
It’s way more than a holiday with a turkey; it’s a good habit.
