There’s a segment of our population that’s “40% more likely than workers to suffer from clinical depression, and the reason boils down to feeling isolated, restless, and unfulfilled.” They’re retired.

Wanna combat that sense of being unfulfilled? A line Patty loves to quote is the first one in Rick Warren’s monumental bestseller: “It’s not about you.” Much of that book will leave an odd taste in the mouth of some astute Wesleyan Christians, since Rev. Warren’s Baptist and it shows.

But that opening line….

“It’s not about you.”

Long ago, people had a saying that was a call to stop being self-absorbed:

A person

wrapped up in themselves

makes a small package.

All of which takes us back to the original piece that got us started down this path (how many days ago now?!), from a source I neither endorse nor disparage, which says in partial conclusion —

No matter how prepared you think you are for retirement, don’t underestimate the importance of going in with a plan for how you’ll spend your days.

— Start now.

No matter your age or stage in life, start planning now for the retirement chapter of your life. Your future self will thank your present self , and me, later.

You may need to tweak that plan as you go along, but you’re better off having a starting point than diving in without a clue.

    Got me thinking in a new direction here.

    SHORT ANSWER: yes, I had a plan.

    MEDIUM ANSWER: yes, I had a plan, and like all other plans there have been changes and adjustments along the way.

    LONG ANSWER: stay tuned…might be trying something different in September. Like I said, you’ve triggered an idea.
