“I Heard You Singing”

May 25, 2018

Real life friend Jim Eckert graciously gave me permission to share this with you.

He and Carole, his wife, were on a cruise ship and participating in a Chapel service.

After the Benediction the Chaplain approached them and in the course of conversation asked where they went to church back home.

Upon hearing their answer: “I knew you were Methodists! I heard you singing!”

Let’s not lose that part of our tradition.

We have a reputation for many things, for better or worse, but let’s do all we can to continue being Those Singing Methodists.

Even those of us who’ve been told not to sing, never asked to join a choir, and never given a mic in any band we’ve been in (why, yes, all three are true for me, how’d you guess?) can still take comfort in this invitation from Psalm 100: “Make a joyful noise to the Lord.”

Especially Methodists!
