Your 100 Feet of Film
Tom Welge is an attorney, but once upon a time he was the keyboard player and a singer in “Aldersgate: The Band.” We were five adults and two high school students, and we were three chord wonders. He and now-professional country singer-songwriter Jamey Garner were the two students. At the time, Tom was a Lutheran; now he’s active in a United Methodist Church.
He recently shared this, and it’s with his gracious permission that I share this with you here today —
“When I was in film school, the big issue was
‘When are we going to get to make a movie?’ …
They gave us 32 feet of 16 mm film which was exactly 1 minute of film … I turned it into a 1-minute movie.
If somebody gave me 100 feet of film … I made a movie out of it. And the other kids basically didn’t. They had the same 100 feet of film. They had the same camera.
And, they just said ‘When am I going to get to
make a movie?’ And I just kept making them.”
– George Lucas
— My question for you and me: What are we doing today with what’s been given us?
Quick Reminder: “Don’t just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best. Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you’ll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. Keep in mind always that the ultimate Master you’re serving is Christ. The sullen servant who does shoddy work will be held responsible. Being a follower of Jesus doesn’t cover up bad work.” — Colossians 3:22-25
