You Might Be Wrong

December 19, 2017

Darla ‘Slusser’ Knopf and her family are active United Methodist Christians whom I’ve pastored. Darla recently wrote this, and it’s with her gracious permission that I share this with you today —

We, as Americans, have had an incredible amount of “stuff” to deal with this past year, and there has been more controversy than any country should have to deal with in such a short time.

We disagree on racial problems, gun laws, political points, gay marriages, and whether or not to stand during the pledge of allegiance or national anthem.

If there is one thing I hope every student took away from what I taught them in 26 years, it’s that we all have a right to our opinion, and just because someone doesn’t agree with you, it doesn’t make him/her a bad person.

People have reasons for the way they feel, and we have no right to take that away from them.

People deserve respect for their opinions.

Believe it or not, YOU may not have the right answer! There is always that possibility–however remote–that you COULD be WRONG.

I truly don’t know anyone who has all the answers to everything.  I personally am tired of all the personal attacks I see just because someone has a different opinion.

That first loud AMEN youheard was from me.

The second, more reserved one was from our old friend St. Paul, who then adds, “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” (Romans 12:18)

After all, as Darla writes, “YOU may not have the right answer! There is always that possibility–however remote–that you COULD be WRONG.”
