Jesus Told This Simple Story, part 4

December 9, 2017

Jesus told this simple story,
but they had no idea what he was talking about.

So he tried again. “I’ll be explicit, then.
I am the Gate for the sheep.
All those others are up to no good
—sheep stealers, every one of them.
But the sheep didn’t listen to them.

I am the Gate.
Anyone who goes through me will be cared for
—will freely go in and out, and find pasture.
A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy.

I came so they can have real and eternal life,
more and better life than they ever dreamed of.”

John 10:6-10, The Message version

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free,” wrote St. Paul in Galatians 5:1. Maybe you’ve already memorized it. It’s been one of my favorite verses  for a long time. Maybe it’s one of yours , too.

“Christ has set us free to live a free life” is how Gene Peterson renders it in his version of The Bible called The Message.

What are at least three ways you’re enjoying your freedom in Christ today?

Where are at least three places that you’re able to “find pasture” today as this same Gospel verse promises you?
