Stay Outa Their Way!

December 3, 2017

“The Methodists!

They’re GOOD people!

Stay outa their way!”

Thus spake The Rev. Dr. Eugene M. Seaman. If it’s not sounding familiar, simply scroll down to what I wrote here yesterday.

Long before Gene or any of the rest of us, St. Paul said the responsibility of pastors and other church leaders is…

…to equip Christ’s people for works of service.

He goes on to tell why: so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. (Ephesians 4:11-15)

In the words of Gene Seaman,

  1. be the helpful, supportive, and equipping leader God’s calling you to be, and
  2. trust that God’s also at work in other people, so be sure you
  3. “Stay outa their way!”
