How Would You Measure That?
...comprehend with all the saints
what is the breadth and length and height and depth,
and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge.
— Ephesians 3:18,19
Libby Moeller did our church’s Children’s Sermon yesterday. In addition to Pastor Jessica and yours truly, she’s one of 11 church members, men and women both, who are on this ministry team and take turns sitting on the floor and talking with kids.
She had several household items we use to measure stuff. She and the children of our church talked about what they’re used for and what they measure.
Then she asked, “How would you measure God’s love?”
Blank stares.
One of the kids looked over at me. We both shrugged our shoulders and shook our heads.
Then Libby read from Ephesians 3 about “the breadth and length and height and depth” of God’s love and asked which of the household items on display we could us to measure that.
Profound, thoughtful silence. From kids and adults alike.
Let’s stop right there for today.
Let’s be amazed at how big and deep and wide and rich is God’s love.
And let’s be thankful.
See you back here tomorrow.
