And Let It Begin

January 13, 2017

When the song of the angels is stilled,
when the star in the sky is gone,
when the kings and princes are home,
when the shepherds are back with their flocks,
the work of Christmas begins:

to find the lost,
to heal the broken,
to feed the hungry,
to release the prisoner,
to rebuild the nations,
to bring peace among the people,
to make music in the heart.

— Howard Thurman

Once upon a time, a nation was called to prayer in the midst of a crisis.

Communities organized combined worship services around this theme.

At one such event, the preacher invited the standing-room-only congregation to join together in a song as the closing prayer.

I was that preacher and this was that song:

Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me.
Let there be peace on earth
The peace that was meant to be.
With God our Creator,
Family are we.
Let us walk with each other
In perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me
Let this be the moment now.
With every step I take
Let this be my solemn vow:
To take each moment
And live each moment
In peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth,
And let it begin with me.

What are at least three things you and I can do this week to let it begin with us?

I always love hearing from you, and I’ll see you back her tomorrow.

  1. I can’t think of three things, at least that I believe you are looking for. All may be considered political, but in the interest of many people beside myself.
