Beyond “The Church of Me”
The Rev. John Vidakovich is a friend, colleague, and so much more…we’ve weathered many storms together. Love this guy. And he graciously gave me permission to share something with you.
He’s long been a faithful part of a group of pastors from different denominations who meet together regularly for Bible Study. (We would officially call this an Ecumenical Lectionary Group.) Here’s what he wrote recently about his experience with that group —
I went to my weekly small group Bible study this morning.
I don’t know what I would do without it. Oh, wait. Yes I do.
I would be limited in my thinking while worshiping at the church of Me. I wouldn’t think about things that make me uncomfortable. I would pretty much be the same today as I was yesterday and probably would be tomorrow.
— His understanding is expanded, he’s challenged, and he’s growing.
All because of this group experience. Good stuff.
My question for you: With whom do you gather for support and challenge like this?
As always, I’d love to hear from you and hope to meet you back here tomorrow.
