A Prayer for Memorial Day 2016

May 30, 2016

Almighty God, before whom stand the living and the dead, today we give thanks to you for those who sacrificed themselves for the sake of others, including us.

Help us to hold them in continual remembrance, and ever think of them as with you in a city whose gates are not shut by day and where there is no night.

Help us to dedicate ourselves to work for a world where peace is real, labor is rewarded, and fear is dispelled.

O Lord, save your people and bless your heritage that we may magnify you and worship you today and always.

—adapted from The United Methodist Book of Worship, p. 440.
