President Lincoln
President Lincoln was with us in worship yesterday.
Portrayed onscreen in excellent fashion by our own “Casey, age 10, grade 4,” his presence and his stovepipe hat and beard and black suit were all very impressive. Casey was great!
But the key was what he said he did on January 1st, 1863.
He freed the slaves.
“The war raged on,” he reminded us.
Hear the good news of The Gospel: over the course of the days we call Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday, Christ Jesus freed us from our slavery to sin (Romans 6:18).
But the war rages on.
How’s the battle going where you are this week?
Time to claim some freedom today. Like an old hymn says, we have “victory in Jesus.”
Meanwhile, Happy President’s Day and I’ll see you back here tomorrow.
