Learning to Love the Thread on Ash Wednesday
NOTE: this is part of a column I wrote that was recently published in The Effingham Daily News, —“You have to learn to love the thread,” the sewing teacher said to Rosanne Cash. Rosanne is a singer-songwriter and a daughter of Johnny Cash and his first wife Vivian. In a recent interview, Rosanne said her teacher “wasn’t speaking metaphorically, but it just hit me” that the line applied to all of life. —
“You’ve got to learn to love the thread” might be the perfect theme for you and me this Lent.
Lent begins today, Ash Wednesday.
My hope and prayer for us is that by the time we get to Easter on April 20, learning “to love the thread” will be a healthy habit in our lives.
Rosanne Cash’s teacher was right: “You have to learn to love the thread.”
I’m still learning…you, too?
Let’s go get the sign of the Cross in ashes on our foreheads and keep moving forward together.
