Coffee with An Expectant Man
I’d love for you and me to have coffee with this guy.
He knew how to wait. We click on to something else if a page doesn’t load fast enough.
He was looking for the salvation of his people, says Luke 2, and his name was Simeon. He recognized in the baby Jesus the fulfillment of God’s long-ago promise.
Luke 2:29-32 has what’s traditionally been called his Song —
“Sovereign Lord, you have done as you have promised,
and I’m ready to die in peace.
For my eyes have seen your salvation,
which you have prepared in the sight of all nations:
a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
and the glory of your people Israel.”
He’d been looking for the salvation of Israel, but God had an even bigger idea.
What are we waiting for today?
Do we have small, narrow expectations?
Are we eager to see what God’s going to do next?
