“Not the Illusion” — This I Know, #4 of 11

October 31, 2012

“I write these things to you who believe

in the name of the Son of God so that you may know

that you have eternal life.”

— 1st John 5:13

November 1st is All Saints’ Day on the historic, traditional calendar of the Christian church.

All Saints’ Day is a time to remember those who have gone on before us and to celebrate their faith in God’s grace.

All Saints’ Day used to be called All Hallows’ Day.  The night before that was called All Hallows’ Eve, which was shortened to the word Halloween.

All of which makes today a good time to remember this promise from the New Testament book of First John: “…know that you have eternal life.”

In The Message version by Gene Peterson, it reads like this: “…know beyond the shadow of a doubt that you eternal life, the reality and not the illusion.”

Happy Halloween?  Happy All Saints!
